The Hayfever Season That Wouldn't End If you live along the East Coast, you're probably enjoying the unseasonably warm weather (and the lower heating bills). But if you're an allergy sufferer, this winter will offer very little relief from symptoms. Not only are plants completely confused and shedding some pollen, but mold spores are having a veritable party in the wet, warm weather. Normally, mold spores kick the bucket when the mercury dips - this year they're getting a new lease on life. Plus, the warm weather encourages us to throw open the windows for some fresh air...which is the same thing as inviting spores right inside. Even though it's also cold season, your itchy eyes and stuffy nose could very well be allergies flaring up. If you've got cold-like symptoms without any fever or appetite loss, don't grab the cold medicine. Consider these natural allergy relievers instead: - Inhaling eucalyptus vapors can do wonders for congestion. You can put 5 drops of the essential oil into two cups of steaming water, then just breathe it in for fast relief.
- Drink some fenugreek seed tea, available at most health food stores. This decongestant tea has a soothing effect on your respiratory system, and can ease hay fever symptoms.
- Take capsules of stinging nettle to soothe your itchy eyes. While touching this common plant can cause skin irritation, ingesting the dried version can do the opposite.
