The results are in: Acupuncture provides proven relief for chronic back pain. That information comes courtesy of the largest acupuncture/pain study ever conducted, including a whopping 11,630 people with chronic low back pain. The patients who received acupuncture got up to 15 treatments during the three-month trial period. After that, the researchers followed up with them for another three months.
At the three-month mark, those who got acupuncture enjoyed substantially improved back function. In fact, twice as many acupuncture patients had less pain symptoms as the folks who hadn't got the needle treatment. Even at the six-month mark, at least half of the acupuncture group was still feeling the benefit.
Bottom line: If you've got lower back pain that just won't go away, give acupuncture a try. It works, it doesn't hurt, and it doesn't come with a warning label full of nasty side effects.
